Poetry?
I know poetry is not exactly "mainstream" these days, but off the top of your head, do you have a favorite poem? What is it and who's it by?

The Birds
Just read “The Birds” by Daphne du Maurier tonight. Absolutely fantastic book. If you’re interested in thrillers, horror, suspense, or fantastic writing you should read this short story.  I’ve got chills still! The progression is perfect and it leaves you begging for explanation in the way good Asian horror movies do. This is the book that the Hitchcock film was based off...

Publishing
Publishing a poetry book is something I’ve wanted to do since high school. In the last year I’ve started working on it seriously. I have a little over 60 pages of tediously revised poetry I’d like to publish. I’ve had several angels of friends helping me with revisions, the most prominent of whom can be found at this Twitter account: https://twitter.com/#!/mari_san04. I’m very thankful for the...

Tendinitis Prevention Police
Being a writer is hard. Partly because it’s a lot of work for very little profit (monetary or otherwise), and partly because I developed Tendinitis in both wrists halfway through high school. Tendinitis is basically inflammation of the tendon. It makes it so that your tendons can’t move properly and it’s excruciating how badly it hurts. It’s caused by continuous, strenuous movement, which for me...

Sometimes Silence Deserves Shouting.
There’s almost too much power in the written word, but sometimes too much power is exactly what you need.

Repost about Twilight
yeahwriters: “Throughout Eclipse, we’re presented with some of the most damaging, dangerous, and utterly offensive themes I have ever seen in popular culture. Women need men to be whole people. Marriage is an institution that demands respect, not because it is an act of love, but because it is a necessary transaction to complete the soul. There are distinct roles that men and women must follow...

Haiku-the myth
So you think you understand Haiku? You believe it’s just a ditty of a poem written in lines of 5-7-5 that anyone can churn out at a moments notice as long as they can count syllables on their fingers? Then why do Japanese masters study lifetimes to write Haiku? Admit that what you think you know might be mistaken. Learn more about real Haiku. http://haiku1o1.webs.com/ It’s more complex than...

Another step complete!
I finally sent out requests for letters of recommendation to the teachers I liked who I think might remember me. One more step in my Study Abroad process is complete! I hope at least one of the teachers replies!! I also have the pages of my poetry book ordered how I like them and have a table of contents typed up. I’m pretty new to the publishing thing though… I’m very nervous...

Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas! I’m excited to be spending Christmas with my parents and brothers this year, because if all goes well this could be the last Christmas we all spend together for a while. If I’m lucky, I’ll still be in England for Christmas next year! This would be spectacular, but it’ll be a big first for me. Getting there is hard work, however. So far...

"The time we have does not forecast our ending..."
You have goals for your life. You have dreams and ambitions. You probably intend to seek out, or have already sought, a higher education; whether out of a desire for knowledge or obligation to someone else. You assume life will lead you toward making a difference in the world. You can imagine your accomplishments bringing you wealth and fame. At least, that’s if you’re like me....
